About Gernika-Lumo Medieval Market
Five days of historical entertainment in the martyred city of the Basque Country
From 27 to 31 March 2026, the historic centre of Gernika-Lumo in the Basque Country will host its traditional Medieval Market, one of the most established in northern Spain. Gernika, a city that symbolises Basque resistance and the 1937 bombing, offers a historic and symbolic setting of great significance for the celebration of this market with medieval roots.
For five days, the historic quarter is filled with artisans, merchants and entertainers in period costumes. Stalls selling pottery, ironwork, glassware, jewellery and leather goods alternate with juggling shows, music played on historical instruments, street theatre and archery displays. Medieval cuisine – with cheeses, mead, wood-fired bread and artisan sausages – is one of the great attractions of the event.
