Authentic wool blanket

This large hand-woven blanket with orange stripes made from pure sheep's wool impressed us from the very beginning. It was important to us that it was made in an authentic way, just like in the Middle Ages. With its dense weave and natural wool grease, it is very heavy at around 1150 grams per square meter (approx. 3.8 oz per square foot). This heaviness ensures that the warmth under the blanket is retained as much as possible and a cozy warmth is generated.

Made from pure sheep's wool from mountain sheep, this blanket impresses with its natural properties. The wool is washed exclusively with spring water to preserve the valuable wool grease (lanolin). The lanolin gives the blanket its high resistance to dirt and almost waterproof properties.

The wool blankets are made on old wooden looms, just like in the Middle Ages. Hand-spun wool is used. Due to the limited width of a loom of around 70 cm (approx. 27.6 in), the blankets and sleeping bags are hand-sewn from 2-3 individual pieces. The wool is not dyed, with the exception of the colorful stripes that decorate our blankets. These are dyed with natural products such as onion skins. Our products are therefore free from chemicals and stand for traditional craftsmanship.
