The aventail is made from butted 9 mm (0.35 in) rings of 16 gauge mild steel
It is inspired historically by the Valsgarde 8 helmet, excavated in Upland, Sweden, from the artistically rich Vendel age. Its spectacle design is quite typical of the Viking and Vendel helmets, resembling the popular Gjermundbu helmet discovered in the early 20th century near Haugsbyd,
