Medieval archer sallet with flip-up visor

The so-called sallet replaced the well-known pelvic hoods in the 15th century and by the middle of the 15th century had become one of the most commonly worn helmets throughout Europe. They were worn in a wide variety of shapes and styles. It was especially popular in Italy, Germany, France and England. In the 16th century it finally evolved into the burgonet (balaclava).

It was made of 1.6 mm (0.063 in) thick steel. The helmet is equipped with a flip-up visor decorated with a brass cross and engraved leaf motifs. The vision slit is about 2 cm (0.79 in) wide and not only ensures adequate visibility, but also provides the necessary air circulation in the helmet due to its pointed forward extended lower edge.
For a firm grip on the head, a leather inlay was riveted on, which is adjustable in size. The chin strap made of 2mm (0.08 in) thick leather was equipped with a buckle and is also size adjustable.
